10 Ways To Cap Off the Workday the Right Way |
|
|
|
Ending your workday on the right note helps you make a clean break and declutter your mind so you can focus on the important things like, "What's for dinner?"
Here is a menu of options to consider that might help you clock out without clucking out. (I'm not sure what that means either, just roll with it.)
1. End each day with a quick phone call to check in on someone - a client or a colleague - just to say you were thinking about them. It'll make you and them feel great.
2. Send a 'thank you' email to one person as a daily ritual.
3. Spend the last ten minutes starting an item you've been putting off, so you feel like you've taken that first bite out of the elephant the next morning.
4. Tidy up your workspace so you return the next day to a more organized, welcoming space.
5. Knock off one last small task from your to-do list to give you a sense of accomplishment.
6. Write a to-do list for the following day. It's a great way to declutter your mind and help you start the following day more focused.
7. Meditate. There are so many apps that can help. It takes practice but given the enormous stress-reducing benefits associated with meditation, it's worth the effort.
8. Research shows that ending the workday with a specific, consistent end-of-day ritual - something that symbolically represents you "locking up shop" and mentally throwing away the key for the day - is a powerful way to shift your mental state.
9. Take time to reflect on what went well so you end on a positive note. Better still, write down three things you are grateful for or three small "wins" you achieved. And the lousier your day went, the more important it is to do this!
10. Stand up, do your own version of "the fun dance," then yell out at the top of your lungs, "I'm outta here suckers" as you dance your way out of the office while blasting "We are the Champions" through the loudspeakers. OK, I jest of course, unless you are working from home, in which case I suggest you go for it. And yes, doing something fun or silly really can help
create a divide between work and play time.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
With more people starting to merge back to the office or at least easing slowly back to more real humanoid encounters, I thought I'd bring back this idea: Create a contest (and perhaps challenge people to create a quick video demonstrating it) for the best safe alternatives to a handshake - something fun that requires no physical contact. For bonus points, encourage employees to come up with
something that reflects your business or profession.
