30-Day Positivity Challenge is Positively Inspiring! |
|
|
|
The brilliant Chief Culture Officer for Park Insurance, Natasha Purnell, created a simple but powerfully effective program to help everyone in her company flex their positivity muscles. She created a 30-day positivity/gratitude challenge for all employees.
Everyone was given a small journal and a list of thirty daily challenges. Relying on the honor system, each morning everyone had to pick one challenge to complete and then write about it in their journal. The list contained things such as: Write down something positive that happened to you today; compliment 3 people; start your day by singing in the shower; write down 3 things you are grateful for; call a friend you haven’t talked to in a long time; do the “power pose”
before going to work; etc.
The challenge inspired everyone to be more intentional about their attitude and share their positive experiences with the entire group. And as a bonus and incentive, everyone who completed the entire 30-day challenge got an afternoon off from work.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
Thank you for sending in this fabulously fun idea Erin Pederson! Similar to those "# of days without a safety incident" signs, her company has created a "X Number of Days Without an Embarrassing Incident" sign to help everyone find the humor when funny things happen at work that are often, well, embarrassing.
Each day there is a quick celebration by the team as they change the number of days upwards until someone has to confess that they did something embarrassing. The perpetrator of the embarrassing incident must reset the number to zero while everyone gathers around the sign, dramatically recount the embarrassing incident (which leads to a great deal of laughter) and wear a "Tiara of Shame" for the day. What a fantastic way to encourage everyone to own their bloopers and
celebrate the fact that for all of us, it's not a question of if, but when's the next time we'll do something embarrassing!

Another example of some humor in a surprising location. This description is on a bar of men's deodorant:
CONTAINS ODOR-FIGHTING "ATOMIC ROBOTS" THAT "SHOOT LASERS" AT YOUR "STENCH MONSTERS" AND REPLACES THEM WITH FRESH, CLEAN, MASCULINE,
"SCENT ELVES."
