    Daily Workplace Happiness Boosters

Happy Scooter Day everyone! I have a confession - 'scooter' is one of my favorite words. It's just so darn cute-sounding! It's also an awesome name for a dog. Or turtle. But I digress.

An effective way to convert intentions into habits is to create theme days for each day of the week and commit just 5 minutes a day to one small habit that will help you, your team, and even your entire workplace be happier and more successful. You can do each of these on your own, encourage your entire team to commit to them for greater impact and for peer support, or create your own happiness micro-boosters.

Monday Moments of Gratitude: Take 5 minutes to write down 3 things (and yes, writing them down has a greater impact) you are grateful for. Post the list where you can see it and/or have everyone on your team share their list.

Touch Point Tuesdays: Take 5 to 10 minutes to phone a customer or colleague you don't see on a regular basis or haven't connected with in a while just to see how they are doing.

Wacky Wednesdays: Take 5 minutes to flex your humor muscles by either writing your own joke and/or collecting one joke and jotting it down in a joke book (which is like a notebook only way more fun).

Thankful Thursdays: Take 5 minutes to write a handwritten thank you card to someone.

Friday Fantastic Flashbacks: Take 5 minutes to write down and share with your team the top-3 best things that happened at work during the week.

The beauty of micro-boosters is that, according to scooter-loads of research, not only do they work, your chances of turning them into habits are far greater because they're easier to commit to.

And consider this: If you stick to these for a year, by the end of the year you will have amassed 156 moments of gratitude, connected with 52 people, collected 52 jokes, sent 52 thank you cards and archived 156 wins worth celebrating! That sounds like a GREAT year to me!

Friday, May 21 is Pizza Party Day, which could prove to be a bit challenging if most of your colleagues are still working remotely. You still have several options though. Plan a virtual pizza party, or order surprise pizza deliveries to your teammates as a thank you or celebration gift, or bring in a chef to offer a lunch n' learn virtual presentation on how to make pizza, or spend the first five minutes of your virtual meeting debating one of the world's most contentious topics: Pineapple on pizza, yeah or nay?

If you can’t think of a certain word, say 'I forget the English word for it' - that way people think you’re bilingual instead of forgetful.

Some hidden humor (and there was soooo much of it, I'm only providing a snippet) found on a doormat tag produced by High Cotton Inc.:

This perfectly fine, if not certainly adequate doormat is made in the USA. Warning: Do not use mat as a projectile. When using mat follow directions: Put your right foot in, put your right foot out, put your right foot in and shake it all about. This mat is not designed to sustain weights exceeding 12,000 lbs. This mat is not intended for use as a place mat. Do not glue mat to porous surfaces, such as pregnant women, pets and heavy machinery. Do not taunt mat.
