Can Humor Improve Your Confidence? |
|
|
|
It's time for a chocolate-infused edition of random musings:
- Bosses need to be shown the love just as much as employees. So, don't forget to show your boss some heart-felt appreciation on a regular basis. The more you show genuine appreciation toward your boss, the more likely they are to return it!
- A 15 year-long study of 50,000 Norwegians found that people who have a healthy sense of humor lived 8 years longer and were less likely to die from a heart attack.
- A study from Harvard School of Business found that people considered the writers of puns in business testimonials to have higher status and to be more confident and competent.
- Good news for people who lack confidence when it comes to sharing their humor. The above-mentioned study found that even when someone's humor misfires at work, people still rate that person as being more confident and are more likely to pick the humorous employee to be their team leader.
- According to an OfficeVibe employee engagement poll, 82% of employees value input from their colleagues and 62% wish they received more feedback from their colleagues. Why not set the example and start asking your colleagues for more constructive feedback?

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
For the many of you working in hybrid workplaces where some/many/most employees are working from home, it's never been more important to bridge the gap between home-bound employees and office employees and to unify everyone who is working remotely in isolation. So create a fun award to honor your Bridge Builders once a month. Recognizing employees who go above and beyond when it comes to making everyone feel connected will
encourage everyone to be more intentional about connecting and it sends the message that you value the importance of staying united as one team.

Just a reminder that next Monday, February 15th is official Annoy Your Boss Day. If you succeed at annoying your boss, please let me know how that works out for you or if I can provide you with a reference letter for future employment.
(Here's a simple thing you could try: Years ago, when I had a real boss and was feeling overwhelmed at work, I would phone him up and say, "Sorry, I'm just too busy to talk right now, can I call you back?" He never once asked me about those calls.)
