Birds of a Feather Work Well Together

It's time for a cinnamon-infused edition of random musings...

  • A survey in Report on Business highlighted some of the frequent complaints made by video conference participants, such as background noise, poor audio, and too many people talking at once. So, take the time to survey your team and discuss solutions to common virtual meeting pet peeves.
  • According to a poll by the Young Presidents' Organization, adaptability is rated as the #1 most crucial characteristic of future leaders.
  • To finish your workday with a greater sense of satisfaction, try to finish each day with a task that you know how to do really well or with one you know will give you a sense of accomplishment.
  • Netflix believes strongly in the value of open and honest communication. All employees must learn to accept and offer constructive feedback to each other.
  • Maybe we need more bird-brains at work? A study found that groups of 6 sparrows solve problems 7x faster than sparrows who were in groups of two. (And now I'm picturing sparrows brainstorming in Zoom breakout rooms.)
  • A study found that "stifling formality" at work leads to people being less authentic and (GASP!) losing their sense of humor! Remember, there's a difference between being somber and taking something serious. The more you infect your environment with a spirit of levity, the more successful you and your team will be!

Today is official Mutt Day, so here's a fun idea that fits the theme
day. As a way to get to know everyone's extended family better, a company created a mock organization chart featuring all of the employees' pets instead of the actual human employees, complete with photos, names, and mock job titles for the beloved pets.

    It's a Wacky World

Seeing a T-Rex scared off by a bear would likely make you wonder what's in your hiking water bottle. Richard Pastores has been hiking mountains in Alberta dressed as a dinosaur to raise funds for the Calgary Food Bank. He had to, however, abort one of his recent hikes in Banff National Park after a close encounter with a bear. There's no word on who was shocked more: the dinosaur or the bear!?
