Happy Canada Day! Because it's Canada Day I'm keeping this one short and sweet.
And speaking of sweet...summer is the ideal time to practice the art of savoring the small things in life as a simple but effective way to de-stress and boost your happiness. Whether it's savoring that piping hot cup of coffee, savoring the smell of freshly cut grass, or soaking in that jaw-dropping sunset, savoring, really savoring, is a proven way to help us slow down, de-stress, and be happier. There are three reasons savoring is such a powerful mood-booster:
1. Savoring thwarts the "hedonistic treadmill" - that feeling of always chasing after and wanting MORE! Instead, savoring helps us enjoy and appreciate what we already have.
2. Savoring keeps us in the moment. Savoring is a simple way to be more mindful, and being more mindful slows down our brains, slows down our breathing, and prevents us from rehashing negative events or stressing about the future.
3. Savoring increases our gratitude. It reminds us to be grateful for the small things in our lives throughout our day, and being grateful for the little things is the #1 legal happiness booster around!
