How Do You Want Your Culture to Change?

Are you using everything going on right now in the world to reflect, reassess and reconnect to what's important in life?

I've talked to several business leaders over the last few months that are energized about the positive changes they're planning to make in their workplace moving forward. Some have told me they're looking forward to embracing a slower pace in their business, adopting a model geared towards more sustainable growth rather than jumping back onto the "hedonistic treadmill" of endless growth for the sake of growth. Others are talking about rediscovering the importance of valuing time off vs. money. Others have spoken about how they've evolved as a leader, have learned better communication skills, or learned to trust their employees more. And many have said they want to double down on building a more compassionate, caring workplace culture.

So, what about you? What do you want to change in your life and in your workplace culture? Here are a few questions you might want to take back to your team:
  • What have we learned about ourselves over the last few months?
  • How do we want our culture to be different moving forward?
  • What have we realized we can do without? What can't we do without?
  • Have our values shifted? Is it time to reassess our workplace values?
  • What new practices do we want to make sure we keep doing forever more?
  • How can we continue supporting the people who most need our support?
  • How can we ensure we continue to create a more caring, purpose-driven, service-focused, fun workplace culture - the kind of culture that the world needs us to be right now?

Another fun icebreaker question for your meetings: Ask everyone to share a non-political, unpopular opinion they have about something. Keep it light, so I suggest sticking to topics like food, travel, or pop culture. So, folks might share that they think Star Wars is the most over-rated movie in history, Hawaii is a ridiculous place to holiday, or that any reasonable person knows that pineapple belongs on every pizza topping.
