Intentional Gratitude |
|
|
|
It's during times like these we all need to be extra intentional about being grateful for what we have. Which is why I reread Surviving to Thriving: The 10 Laws of Grateful Leadership, by my brilliant and compassionate friend Steve Foran.
The book is a great reminder of how gratitude contributes to our overall health and happiness. So with that in mind, try some of these ideas on for size, you might be grateful that you did (see what I did there?):
- Start a gratitude journal. End each day by writing down and reflecting upon 3 things you are grateful for, no matter how small. Encourage your children to do this as well to instill a lifelong sense of gratitude within them. This simple exercise has been shown to be one of the biggest and sustained boosters of happiness!
- Set up a gratitude board in your office, virtually online, and/or at home where colleagues and family members can add to a shared list of things they are grateful for.
- Before every meal, take a moment to have everyone share one thing they are grateful for.
- Open or end every meeting with a moment of gratitude.
- Take this time to send someone a personalized, heartfelt note of gratitude explaining why they mean so much to you.
- Steve Foran suggests asking people who know you well, "If you were me, what would you be grateful for?" The answers might be revealing and help you better appreciate things you might overlook.
- Steve also suggests that reading other people's gratitude lists is a beneficial way to shift your perspective about priorities. When you hop over to Steve's website, you can also register for The Daily
Gratitudes, which allows you to post and see other people's gratitudes every day.
So, let me put this into practice by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to all of you, for your ongoing support, feedback, encouragement and yes, even the corny jokes you send my way! Thank you!

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
As a meeting icebreaker have everyone introduce themselves using this formula to generate their alter ego Dragon Name: Your first name spelled backwards + the current mood you are in; followed by "Hoarder of the last thing you ate." Since I'm feeling a little goofy this morning, and the last thing I ate was a grilled cheese sandwich, my alter ego Dragon Name would be: "Ekim the
Goofy, Hoarder of the Grilled Cheese Sandwiches."
