A Checklist for a Happier Workplace |
|
|
|
It's time to march forth with another poutine-infused edition (yup - it's official Poutine Day tomorrow) of random ideas and workplace musings...
- There's a hotel that offers a Checkout Checklist in each room to remind customers to check for things they may have left behind. Not only is this a great "extra inch" service offering, they also include some cheeky humor by including "Steal the toiletries" as one of the items to remember.
- Researchers at the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center in Spain found that self-deprecating humor that isn't self-defeating, is positively correlated with greater happiness and mental well-being. (Remember, if you don't laugh at yourself, someone else will volunteer to do it for you!)
- A Harvard Business Review article,The Neuroscience of Trust, reported how employees in high-trust companies report 74% less stress, 76% higher engagement, and 50% higher productivity than people working in low trust companies. Trust me on this one - trust at work matters!
- Participants in a 6-week study who performed just one non-financial act of kindness for a coworker or friend per week resulted in an incredible 40% boost in their happiness level.
- According to research, here are five super simple ways to shift your mood: Sit up straight (slouch potatoes are rarely happy), walk with exaggerated arm movements (it's your chance to have a Ministry of Silly Walks moment), phone a friend (preferably a funny one), look at a live plant for one minute (looking at a dead one will likely depress you), and reflect on the funniest thing you've witnessed over the last month (especially healthy if the
funny thing was you).

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
March 5th is official Name Tag Day and March 6th is Middle Name Pride Day, so why not combine the two and have everyone wear a, "Hello My Name is____" name tag for the day using their middle name. Or, open up your next meeting or daily team huddle by quickly going around the room and having everyone share their middle name.

It's time for another entry in our series of quirky clothing labels. Thanks Dan for sending this one in! From Diverse Clothing:
"Diverse Shoes Department advise you to carefully read the care instructions. Feed the pigeons. Save the snails. Be kind to hamster and other gerbils."
