Partnering Up for a Better Workplace

It's time for another gluten-free edition of random ideas:

  • The booking software company FareHarbor has an employee partner program that pairs team members up for coffee or lunch dates each week. The program helps strengthen their culture and builds relationships across different departments.
  • A Fast Company survey found that 28% of employees (the #1 answer) said the most meaningful recognition comes from their immediate manager.
  • Research reported in Forbes found that people are more likely to achieve their work goals if they create visual representations of their key work goals.
  • More and more companies, such as the Toronto-based Google and EventMobi offices, have created dedicated napping rooms to help employees be more productive.
  • To encourage a continuous improvement mindset, The Adecco Group holds regular Idea Forums where employees can share their workplace culture and business improvement ideas in a safe, collaborative setting.

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Bring a dummy to your staff meetings - and no, I'm not talking about Bob. I mean an actual dummy or blowup doll who can sit in one of your meeting chairs and serve as a constant reminder of who you need to keep utmost in mind during your meetings. Depending on the meeting, the dummy could represent your best client, a vendor, or a front line employee. And as their representative, always make sure you take the time to consider the dummy's point of view!

    Quote of the Week

“Humor is a release. You try to make light of something because it scares you. We laugh at death because we know death will have the last laugh on us.” Ed Asner
