Ramping Up Your Workplace Culture for 2020 - Part Two

Last week I referenced the Wheel of Change as a simple framework to help you ramp up your culture. In the same spirit, here are 8 ideas to help you re-energize your workplace mojo this year.

1. Be more intentional about recognizing and appreciating each other at work. A lack of appreciation is still the #1 reason employees quit. I haven't found one example of a culture reboot that didn't include employee recognition as a major priority!

2. Hold daily team huddles: No chairs; 7-10 minutes long; same time; same place; same agenda.

3. Get your meetings right! Meetings are a critical touchstone that should reflect and help you create your ideal culture.

4. Hold weekly random coffee dates that includes everyone in your workplace.

5. Have monthly themes centered on one aspect of your culture each month.

6. Hold quarterly culture half day town hall meetings to celebrate and strengthen your culture.

7. Do a values blitz: Have everyone live one of your core values in outrageously loud ways one week at a time.

8. The Austin-based software company Social Solutions has a "Work Hard Play Hard" team to drive social events and celebrations at work. Create something similar in your workplace to help you drive a greater sense of belonging and engagement for everyone in your workplace.

A study found that you can grow your sense of ha ha by simply keeping a humor journal where you record three funny things that happened to you or you observed each day, no matter how small the funny moments were. So why not give this a try? You could also try it with a team journal to encourage everyone to keep finding the funny on a daily basis.

    It's a Wacky World

If I had to vote for the "Most Adorable News Story" of 2019 it might go the story of Ben Franklin, a golden retriever therapy dog that was finally identified in December as the mysterious thief that was stealing charity toys at a police department and hiding them under a desk. (And wow, could we do with more news stories like this these days!)
