Does Your Boss Make You Smile?

It's time for turkey-infused edition of random musings and ideas:
  • Listen up! A recent study found that organizations that practice "active, multi-method, and frequent" listening to their employees (in other words, really listening to their employees) have 1,250% higher employee engagement scores.
  • Following up and staying connected with customers is the #1 way to boost referrals, garner repeat business and generate word-of-mouth business.
  • It's official Boss's Day today! It's still not too late to send them a card or perhaps buy them a new car! (Okay, so being a boss myself...I have some skin in the game.)
  • British researchers found that even a forced smile can boost your mood, while one genuine smile can generate the same level of brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of chocolate!
  • New research cited in Forbes suggests 33% of employees dread having one-on-one meetings with their boss! Ouch! Conversely, bi-weekly, one-on-one meetings with a person's immediate boss reduced employee burnout by 84% and increased employee engagement scores by 230%.

Tomorrow is official Wear Something Gaudy Day, which reminds me of one of my client's theme days (and kudos to them - they celebrate a whopping 20 different theme days throughout the year): Clash Day, where everyone has to wear the most creatively colorful clashing clothing conceivable. They award a prize for the "Person Most Likely to be Visible From Space" and they offer discounts for customers who are appropriately clashing.

“If Beethoven had been killed in a plane crash at 22 the history of music would have been very different. As would the history of aviation, of course.”  Tom Stoppard.

Some more unexpected humor on a product label, this time on a jar of Gringo Bandito hot sauce:

“Hot Sauce really doesn’t have nutritional value. It’s vinegar and peppers, for God’s sake. What did you expect? Why are you even trying to determine the nutritional value of hot sauce? Just enjoy it!”
