      9,200 Thanks

Are you remembering the importance of thanking your colleagues on a regular basis? Because the following story makes me feel a little delinquent when it comes to expressing my 'thanks' to people! The CEO of Belfor Holdings, Inc., Sheldon Yellen, writes (and yes, by hand) birthday cards to each of his 9,200 employees as a way to say thank you.

Yellen has written a birthday thank you card to every employee, every year, since 1985. And if that isn't enough, he also sends regular thank you notes, anniversary cards and get well cards for employees' children when they are sick. Many of his managers have embraced the habit with their own teams, and according to Yellen, the practice has created a more gracious and compassionate workplace culture

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Today is official Name Your PC Day, so take the time to come up with a fun, creative name for your computer. Perhaps it'll make you less likely to clobber it the next time it acts up? (And hey, to help spark his creative muse, Keith Richards names all his guitars, so maybe it will also help you get through that spreadsheet with a little more passion and creativity!)

Someone passed along a message they encountered on an outdoor sign for a Comfort Inn hotel:

"Pets allowed! Except bears. We're not making that mistake again!"
