Do Pirates Really Have More Fun?

When I phoned the online photo-sharing site Shutterfly several years ago with a complaint, I was delighted to be given this option at the end of their automated voicemail menu: "If you want to hear these menu options again, but in pirate, please press two."  Of course I chose the pirate option (who wouldn't?) and was delighted to hear their entire menu translated into pirate-ese! Not only did it make me laugh, it softened my frustrations when it came to airing my complaint.

It's a silly example, perhaps, but a great reminder of how injecting a bit of humor in unexpected places can make a positive difference when it comes to helping your business connect with your customers.
