      Enjoying More Joyful Workplaces

When was the last time you sat down with your boss or your teammates to have a Frank discussion (or Karen, if your boss's name is Karen) about what creates more joy at work? Given the enormous economic benefits of happier employees, it's a conversation you should really have on a regular basis! Speaking of joy at work (or Frank or Susan. OK, I should stop now), a recent Harvard Business Report shared the top factors influencing joy at work in a survey of more than 500 employees:
  • Strong bonds within the team: 72% report this as being important
  • My talents are utilized effectively: 74%
  • I understand my role and the role of others on the team: 74%
  • I understand how my role contributes to business success 74%
  • Shared success is celebrated within the team 75%
  • Colleagues acknowledge others' contributions to team success: 69%
So...what's on your joy list? (Or Dave, if your name is Dave.)

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

A wacky meeting icebreaker to try on for size: Give everyone three minutes to create the best anagram of their full name, and for bonus points have people use their anagram as their alter ego name on name tags for the meeting. (I came up with three possibilities for Michael Kerr: calmer hiker, Chile marker, and charmer like.)

    Quote of the Week

Why did the hipster burn his tongue? He drank his espresso before it was cool.

    It's a Wacky World

I love stumbling upon humor in odd places, and of course, I highly recommend strategically placing a little humor in odd places, such as on this clothing label:

For best results: Machine wash cold.Tumble dry low. Never iron.
For worst results: Drag thru puddle behind car. Blow dry on roof rack.
