			Fun in the Sun During the Dog Days of Summer

	It's the dog days of summer right now, so let's have a look at what a few companies do to add some fun under the sun: Qualcomm invites local farmers to set up booths on their lawn for a weekly farmer's market, offering employees the chance for fresh fruit, veggies, and flowers, while also supporting their local farmers (an awesome thing to do in my humble opinion). One of my clients sets up lemonade stands throughout the summer to raise money for their favorite charity. A Hitachi Data Systems office holds an annual "Dog Day" every summer where employees can bring their dogs to work. They offer dog grooming, training, and even a dog talent show. One of my clients has make-your-own sundae stations available every Friday at lunch. Another one of my clients invites local bands to perform on their lawn every Friday lunch hour for an extended hour and a half lunch hour.

		Mike's Fun at Work Tip

As a way to defuse tension in meetings, one of my clients uses a series of flash cards meeting participants can hold up, featuring different messages such as, "Slow Down!", "Question from the Peanut Gallery," "Awesome idea!" and "Huh?". The flash cards keep their meetings light while encouraging more active participation from all the attendees.
