The Positive Power of Gratitude |
I was recently a guest poster for a week on my friend and colleague Steve Foran's Daily Gratitude Blog, where people post 3 things they are grateful for each day. Foran's new book, Surviving to Thriving:
10 Laws of Grateful Leadership, delves into why gratitude is such an important habit to develop. There's ample research to suggest that being intentional about practicing gratitude boosts happiness levels and lowers our stress. Gratitude even helps rewire our brains. The key is to be more intentional:
1. Create a morning ritual, either on your own or with your family, to recognize just one thing you are anticipating being grateful about in the day ahead.
2. Open your meetings with a "moment of gratitude" where each participant has the chance to express one thing they are grateful for.
3. Create a daily habit of writing down 3 things you are grateful for in whatever format works easiest for you. (Studies show this simple act is one of the biggest happiness boosters available to us!)
4. Create a public space at work for people to share their gratitude, such as an on-line forum or even a gratitude wall. Reading about what other people are grateful for also makes us happier and more appreciative.
