Bringing Joy to Work One Viking Helmet at a Time |

Menlo Innovations is a very different kind of technology company. Their mission is to be intentional about restoring joy to technology. They infuse their culture with joy because they believe a joy-filled workplace drives results. (And besides, even if it didn't
drive results, who the heck wants to work in a joy-less workplace!?)
One of the things this pet-friendly, baby-friendly workplace (they've won an award for their baby-friendliness) does to emphasize their "one team" culture is a 15-minute, daily stand up meeting at 10:00 a.m. with all fifty employees. During the stand up meeting everyone shares: what they are working on; a challenge they may be experiencing; and any social news. To reinforce their culture where everyone works in pairs, anyone speaking in the stand up meeting has to hold or
touch their most important cultural artifact: a plastic Viking helmet. The two horns of the Viking helmet represent the importance of working in pairs. If a larger group is reporting on a project then just one person will speak for the group, but everyone still has to touch the Viking helmet.
Corny, perhaps, but their award-winning culture based on collaboration and joy speaks for itself!
