Engage Employees With an Inspiration Field Trip |
|
|
|
If you want to engage everyone in your workplace hold an annual Inspiration Field Trip where everyone in your workplace, regardless of their position, gets divided up into teams and heads out into your community. A bank in the US does this brilliantly, where teams visit bank branches and open banking accounts to
assess best practices and catalog customer service experiences - the good, the bad and the ugly.
But don't feel you have to limit yourself to your own type of business - some of the most innovative ideas come from cross-fertilized ideas gleaned from completely different businesses. So encourage team members to take on the attitude of a Star Trek landing party and look at everything from completely fresh eyes. Give everyone a small budget to purchase items or services as needed, and have everyone look for customer service opportunities, creative ideas, best practices,
potential partnership opportunities, and examples of any humor at work in action.
Afterwards, have teams debrief and award prizes for whoever comes up with the best idea, best anecdote, funniest experience, biggest lesson of what not to do, funniest sign, best team photo, best potential partnership idea etc.
An Inspiration Field Trip is a creative way to involve everyone in your workplace and encourage them to be on the lookout for creative ideas for your business.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
One of my clients has a giant white board in their lunchroom divided into two categories: Things that make work LESS fun/Things that make work MORE fun. Employees add to the growing lists to create an on-going visual reminder of the simple things everyone needs to either stop doing or start doing to create a more positive workplace culture.

It's a Wacky World |

As seen on a swimming pool sign: "A new swimming pool is rapidly taking shape since the contractor has thrown in the bulk of his workers."
