      Feedback Fridays

To continually improve their workplace culture, the HR software company Workday surveys their 9,600 employees every "Feedback Friday."  Feedback Friday helps them keep a pulse on what employees are thinking and feeling, and helps the company amass a huge database they can draw upon to make sure they are focused on the right priorities when it comes to creating happier employees and a rocking great culture. They might ask about their employees' mental or physical health, or it could be a question about their relationship with their manager. And yes, Feedback Friday has led to real changes, after all, the last thing you want to do is continually ask for everyone's feedback only to have it disappear into a giant black hole!

Why not try a version of Feedback Friday in your workplace? Even just asking one question, or soliciting a simple "yes" or "no" vote on a topic can help give everyone a voice and a sense of belonging - as long as you share the results and, when appropriate, act on them!

It's also an opportunity to inject some fun into the workplace - every second week you could survey everyone on a funny or quirky topic, or something more personal in nature. You might ask everyone to vote on their favorite 2018 comedy from a top-5 list, vote on who's going to win the NHL Stanley Cup or Superbowl, or whether or not your company should adopt a cat, dog, or aardvark as your company ambassador.

Use handheld whiteboard signs (such as these "Quick Response Whiteboards") to add some fun interaction to your in-person or virtual video meetings. You can use them to survey people in a fun way, brainstorm, have people vote on a scale of 1-10 on a topic, or write down the word that best describes their week, month, or year!

    It's a Wacky World

Researchers at the University of Alberta have studied what makes certain words funnier than others, and as part of this fascinating research, they have determined that the following words are the funniest words in the English language: upchuck, bubby, yaps, giggle, guffaw, puffball and jiggly, with honorable mentions going to wriggly, squiffy, and lummox! What's one of your favorite funny words?
