What's One Thing Your Team Needs to Do in 2019? |
|
|
|
Happy 2019 everyone! According to a poll I read, 93% of people stop wishing people "Happy New Year" after the first week of January, while 22% think it's "tacky" to wish people happy new year after January 2nd! But I digress.
This is the perfect time of year to sit down with your team (or heck, with just yourself) and do some Wheel of Change planning, where you ask the following questions, about either your work or personal life, at a team level, or at an individual level:
1. What is one thing this year, just one, we (or I) need to start doing?
2. What is one thing, we (I) need to keep doing?
3. What is one thing, just one, we (I) need to stop doing?
4. What is one thing we (I) need to accept or learn to live with?
Have a team meeting where everyone shares their personal list, then come to a consensus on what your team needs to focus on.
To help keep the answers in the forefront and ensure everyone commits to them, post your four items (and be ruthless - keep it to four) somewhere in a prominent location, bring them up in each meeting, or turn them into an interpretive dance.
Okay, I kid about the last option. But do something, anything creative to keep your Wheel of Change alive!

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
I met a tech support employee who, in an effort to make his own job more fun and interesting, and make it more fun for the people he works with, offers a small prize to whoever can stump him with a question. He makes it clear it has to be a legitimate question reflecting an actual concern or need in order to qualify for the prize. Creating the challenge, he told me, makes him more approachable and encourages him to stay
sharp. You could modify this idea for any position in your workplace, and use it with either your clients or your fellow employees!

It's a Wacky World |
|
In case you missed this in the news: A seven year-old child phoned 911 because his parents bought him snow pants for Christmas! That's ridiculous! I mean if they had bought him socks or underwear, then sure, I can see it, but come on - snow pants?
