      Interesting Questions To Generate Interest

Last week I wrote about the importance of opening meetings with a positive question to set a positive tone. I'm also a huge fan of quirky questions to drive conversations and build relationships. Posing fun questions is also a simple way to grow your sense of humor, while having a few quirky questions in your back pocket can be a welcome tool for introverts who dread the thought of meeting new people at events.

According to an Inc.Magazine article, banning small talk from conversations and instead asking interesting questions also makes you happier! Here are a few of my favorite questions cited in the article, but I'd also love to hear your questions: What interesting questions do you ask to get to know someone better?
  • If you had the opportunity to meet one person you haven't met who would it be, why, and what would you talk about?
  • What do you value more, intelligence or common sense?
  • What movie is your favorite guilty pleasure, and why?
  • What's the most important thing I should know about you?
  • If you could do anything you wanted tonight (anywhere, for any amount of money), what would you do and why?

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

There's a winery restaurant in B.C. where servers wear tags identifying where they are from - the tags help break the ice with guests. Why not try a similar thing with your front line employees? Or try it on for size for a day - or even a week -  where all of your employees wear tags labeling where they are from as a fun way to get to know everyone a little better.

    It's a Wacky World

November 19 is official Have a Bad Day Day. It's meant to mock the superficial way we often mindlessly utter the phrase, "Have a nice day!" without being sincere. So this Monday, November 19th, you are supposed to wish everyone a "bad day" in the cheeriest, most uplifting voice possible to confuse the heck out them. Let me know how that works out for you!
