And the Employee Award Goes To...

A few readers have asked for suggestions for a few offbeat employee awards, so here again are a few of my favorites:
  • Ha Ha Award for whoever keeps their sense of humor and helps everyone around them keep their cool during a crisis or challenging time.
  • Cross Fertilizer Award to whoever comes up with a great idea for a different department or team other than their own.
  • Houdini Award for whoever magically makes a big problem disappear!
  • Almost Hit It Out of the Ballpark Award to encourage people to take risks and try new ideas - even when they don't work!
  • Heroic Failure Award...for the same reason as above.
  • I Got Your Back Award for employees who best watch out for other employees' safety.
  • MacGyver Award for whoever can fix anything (presumably using only a paperclip).
  • Meeting Jester Award for whoever keeps meetings fun and lively.
  • Least Likely to Be Voted Off the Island Award for whatever reason is important to your island.
  • The Jackass Whisperer Award...one of my clients gives this out to whoever does the best job at calming down belligerent customers.

I'd love to hear if your workplace has any offbeat awards or if you have a suggestion for one to add to the list? Please let me know and I'll feature them in an upcoming edition.

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

October 18 is Wear Something Gaudy Day, but if it's too late to get people involved tomorrow, why not plan for one later this fall as an offbeat theme day? Have a Gaudy-off fashion show and award prizes for the gaudiest of the gaudy. Or, similarly, as one of my clients does, hold a Clash Theme Day and award prizes for the "Loudest Clashers".

    It's a Wacky World

Following the success of the Museum of Failure, Malmo, Sweden, has opened the Disgusting Food Museum, featuring such tasty treats as maggot cheese, roasted Guinea pig (which I've actually had and yes, it does taste like chicken) and rotting shark. The museum also features what has scientifically been proven to be the stinkiest cheese in the world!
