      Fun Customer Follow Ups

I met a salesman who told me how he always looked for unusual ways to follow up with clients, including sending them birthday cards - but not for their birthdays, or even their children's birthdays, but for their dogs' birthdays! That, he told me, was how you really stand out from your competitors and show that you truly know and value your clients.

Here are a few other fun ways to follow up and stay in touch with your customers:
  • Send a card to celebrate unusual holidays or theme days - a "Hope You See Your Shadow" card on Groundhog Day, a "May the Fourth Be With You" Star Wars card on May 4th, or a "Arrrrrr You Having Fun Yet?" card on International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19).
  • Send along a newspaper cartoon related to their business or personal life.
  • Hire a celebrity voice impersonator (they're easy to find online and relatively inexpensive) to leave them a funny voice mail message.
  • Send a card or leave a voice mail message with the setup to a joke, but let them know that they'll have to connect with you to hear the punchline!

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

A simple idea to help facilitate communication across different teams and   encourage employees to get to know each other better: Coffee roulette. Every Friday (or whatever day works best) randomly match employees (all employees, including senior leaders) in your company to meet up for coffee. You can draw names or use a random number generator to match people from your corporate directory - whatever works. And if you work alone in your home office just make it a virtual coffee meeting over Skype or Zoom with a colleague or even a randomly-selected customer.
