Creating Magical Customer Service Moments |
|
|
|
While researching my last book, The Humor Advantage, I had the pleasure of meeting the enthusiast human resources manager at Tivoli Gardens, an amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. Tivoli is consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in Denmark. Here are just a few ways they nurture a rocking great culture:
- They place a huge emphasis on hiring, holding 10 auditions a year where employees must audition for 2-3 minutes in front of 70 people, including the HR department and managers, before moving onto more traditional interviews. The auditions are used to "cast" employees based on their charisma, positive body language, and attitude.
- New employees are given a tour with their historian so they understand the rich heritage they will be representing; they set a goal of trying to help every employee "fall in love" with Tivoli so they can in turn share that passion with their customers.
- The CEO and every manager greets every new employee to personally welcome them to their workplace family.
- They have a tradition where every non-front line employee, manager, and CEO greet all the first guests of the new season at their front gate.
- Tivoli has several initiatives to encourage a healthy workplace - including free health checkups, sporting events, and collaborations with local gyms.
- They stress the importance of service in every aspect of their culture, including a reminder to all employees to look for opportunities to create what they call "magical moments" for their guests.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
Why name your next workplace project (or heck, your meeting space, washrooms, stairwell, or business report) something boring or bureaucratic sounding when you could call it something fun, mysterious, and intriguing, such as Digital Kangaroo, Shimmering Silver Tornado, or Cheerful Mercury Rising? For scads of randomly generated offbeat project names like these, cruise on over to the Random Project Name
Generator.

It's a Wacky World |

A town in Quebec has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the only place in the world that has the distinction of having two exclamation points in its name. Yup, the rather fun-sounding municipality of Saint-Louis-du-Ha!-Ha! is now in Guinness!! Ha ha!!
