Walk Your Clients to the Sidewalk

The advertising legend David Ogilvy once said that one of the reasons his firm beat out the competition was this: "Our competitors walk their clients to the elevator, but we walk our clients to the sidewalk." That simple quote speaks volumes about how going the extra distance with clients (literally in this case) is one of the keys to success.

So here's my challenge to you and your team: What would your version of "walking clients to the sidewalk" be? What singular competitive advantage could your entire business rally around that would capture that same spirit through one action and one mantra?

(Speaking of inspiring customer service, register now for the Customer Service Leadership Summit this November 15 in Calgary. Four outstanding speakers. One industry panel. Relevant content mixed with heaps of fun. To book your seats cruise over to Customer Service Leadership Summit.)

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Try this for a simple, fun meeting icebreaker: Ask every meeting participant to name their superhero "super power." I've spoken at several conferences recently where attendees wore name tags revealing their self-identified superpower. It encouraged people to reflect on what their unique talent or ability was and it made for a fun conversation icebreaker.
