Don't Get Snowed Under at Work

Another round of random thoughts and ideas:
  • To help build a learning organization and encourage a growth mindset, create a secondhand library of inspirational, work-related, business, and humor books where employees donate books from their own collections.
  • How you listen influences the questions you ask and the quality of the conversations you have.
  • The company Clue offers employees access to a coach or professional therapist on a weekly basis.
  • The financial investment company Acorns offers daily meditation programs and a padded soundproof room for the rough days (just how rough are the days getting there?).
  • Silicon Valley talent consultant Patty McCord suggests companies should align the extra bonus perks they offer employees to their values and purpose to make them more meaningful. For example, if you run a retail company that donates clothes to children, send employees to a developing country to deliver shipments firsthand so they can connect with the people you are helping.
  • During the brutal winter of 1991-1992, the city council in Syracuse, New York passed a law that outlawed any further snow until the following Christmas Eve; the law was the headline in the morning  newspaper. How can you use humor on a large scale to laugh at things you have no control over?

    It's a Wacky World

A footloose pig named Kevin Bacon was found roaming the streets of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia by two very bemused police officers. The affable pig was returned to his owner, who was apparently found through only six degrees of separation.
