How Do Your Values Stack Up?

The old saying "when everything is a priority, nothing is a priority" also applies to your values. There are times when your values will come in conflict with each other and you need to make the difficult choice to choose one value over another value. Consider workplace safety - a non-negotiable value that must take precedence over all other values. Simply put, some values really are more valuable than others.

Because living your values out loud is critical when it comes to building a great workplace culture, driving business results, and engaging employees, take the time to have everyone on your team rank your organization's values in order of importance to them. It's a seemingly simple exercise that always generates deep and valuable conversations by encouraging everyone to examine your values in detail and really consider why each value matters and what they truly mean to everyone.

Today is "Say Something Nice Day" (so let me just say that you look marvelous), but of course if you want to build a rocking great workplace culture you really don't want to leave this to an annual event. A simple thing you can do to encourage everyone to share compliments and pass the praise around the office is to create a giant Say Something Nice Board where people can leave their shout outs and compliments where everyone can see them. Or people can write down something nice about a customer, an idea, a product, a new service you're offering, the weather, the new dish on the cafeteria menu, the commute into work...
