My Boss Is Driving Me Batty! And Here's Why...

Here's a recent Harris Poll reported in Harvard Business Review that reveals the top complaints employees have about their leaders:

#1: Leaders not recognizing employees' achievements (63%)
#2. Not receiving clear direction from leaders (57%)
#3. Not having any time to meet (52%)
#4. Leaders refusing to talk to employees! (51%)
#5. Leaders who take credit for ideas (47%)
#6. Leaders not offering constructive criticism (39%)
#7. Not knowing employees names (36%)
#8. Refusing to talk in person or on the phone (34%)
#9. Not being asked about your personal life (23%)

How many can you relate to? If you're a leader reading this take the time to consider which ones you need to work on. If you're an employee then consider passing the list on to your leadership team so that they're aware of what might be driving employees batty. And if there are a few complaints that resonate with you, then be proactive and take it up with your immediate supervisor in a constructive way. Offer some suggestions and take a "we're in this together" approach by suggesting things you could do as well to help facilitate a positive solution.

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Another alter ego name generator for you to use at a meeting, staff party, or when you just want to add a bit of fun to your day - your Star Wars Alter Ego Name. Here's how you create it:

1. For your first name, take the 1st three letters of your last name and add the 1st two letters of your 1st name to the end of it. So I would be Kermi.

2. For your last name, take the 1st two letters of your mother's maiden name and add the last three letters of the city you were born in. My mom's maiden name was Longmore, and I was born in Penticton, so that gives me Loton for my last name. So my Star Wars name is "Kermi Loton."

And, it goes without saying I'm sure, if you say it using Yoda's accent it's far more effective!

Is this a sign of the times to come? Here's why your business and perhaps you personally need to up your game when it comes to making a human connection with your customers. Yes, it's Pepper, the humanoid robot (that apparently has a bit of a salty sense of humor). Pepper is being used by some businesses to greet and welcome customers to their business...you know, to add that human touch.
