Dancing Your Way to a More Inspiring Workplace

It's time for another edition of random musings...
  • Today is Administrative Professionals Day! We all know nothing gets done without you.  And you know where the skeletons are hidden! So please take the time to show your appreciation to an admin professional today!
  • In a recent Gallup poll, 52% of exiting employees said their manager could have done something to prevent them from leaving. So, if you're a manager hold regular "What will keep you here?" check-in meetings. And if you're an employee thinking of leaving, don't leave without expressing what would keep you in your job!
  • Hand delivering a letter of gratitude to someone is a proven way to substantially boost your level of happiness for a long time.
  • Confidence-building tip: The next time you need to present to your peers or ask your boss a challenging question, try channeling the confidence of a four-year-old wearing a cape!
  • April 29 is International Dance Day. Did you know this year marks the 14th annual "Dance Your Ph.D." contest? It's a contest that challenges scientists to explain their research without using any jargon or PowerPoint…just dance! The goal is to educate audiences by explaining complex theories through interpretive dance. (I SO want this to become a regular thing at workplace retreats!)

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Here's a silly icebreaker or mid-meeting-breaker to try. Arm everyone with loads of paper clips and see who can create the longest paper clip chain in one minute. This works in virtual and in-human meetings. (As in, in-person meetings, not, you know, inhuman meetings!)
