Noting the Power of Small Gestures

Embrace the power of small gestures to make a difference when you send a written note to your clients or colleagues.

A study by Randy Garner found that when a handwritten Post-it note is attached to a survey, the survey response rate shoots up from 36% to 75%. And the more personalized the note, the higher the response rate.

Including a funny, non-offensive card with your note increases the response rate for any type of request. Even just including smiley faces on electricity consumption feedback forms prompts a better response rate! :)

And of course, sending chocolate along with your handwritten note is bound to improve your response rate. (I'm sensing a recurring theme these last few weeks?)

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Create fun titles for different meeting roles. For example, the meeting facilitator could be the official "Cat Herder" while the person managing the chat box in a virtual meeting could be the "Chat Herder." The person responsible for bringing food to an in-person meeting might be the "Master of Munchies." You could even assign rotating positions such as an official "Devil's Advocate" to offer contrarian perspectives or "The Wise Acre" to allow someone the freedom to be the official sarcastic smart Alec throughout the meeting. rule1
