Checking Out Your Coworkers - In a Good Way!

There's a library in Copenhagen, Denmark, where users can check out human beings. Yup, you can "borrow" a person who has voluntarily enrolled in the program, as long as you promise to bring them back in the same mint condition you found them. The "Human Library" encourages people to have conversations with people they ordinarily wouldn't as a way to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and encourage honest conversations on challenging topics. So why not start one in your workplace?

Encourage employees to register with a list of topics or specialties they feel comfortable speaking about and open it up to your clients or even the world if you are so inclined. People can then sign a person out for a virtual coffee meeting or lunch date. It could be a fun way to break down silos in your workplace, encourage cross-cultural conversations, and connect with customers to talk about what you do behind the scenes. You could make the human library available to children who want to learn more about jobs in your field. You can make it a free service or use it to fund raise for your favorite charity if you decide to charge a nominal fee.

Hold a theme day where everyone dresses like a character from one of their favorite TV shows or movies. If you do this virtually, you can meet up online and have everyone guess the name of the movie or TV show based on how each person is dressed.
