Highlights and Heroes

I received lots of great feedback last year from people who did this, so I'm repeating my suggestion for a simple but effective team meeting to hold before you break for the year. Have everyone on your team share their:

1. Top three positive highlights of the year.
2. Top three things they are most grateful for.
3. Top three things they are most excited about for 2015.

Some teams kept it to workplace goals, while others did a separate round for personal and work-related answers. Considering the extensive amount of research showing the strong links between happiness and gratitude, as well as reliving and anticipating positive events, it might be a great exercise to do with your family as well.

Thank-you for your continued support everyone. I wish you, your families, and your teammates a safe, successful and rocking fun 2015!  We'll return on January 7th, official Weigh-in Day (oh joy) and I'm Not Going to Take It Anymore Day!

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Friday, December 19, is official Underdog Day - a day to recognize unsung heroes. At this time of year it can be especially important to take the time to recognize people in your workplace. So why not take an unsung hero to coffee or lunch this Friday, or pick up the phone and tell them how much you appreciate their efforts, send a thank-you card, email an e-certificate for a coffee or honor someone with "The Unsung Hero of the Year" award. I know it's an insanely busy time of year right now, so if you don't do it now, plan it to coincide with the mid-January blahs.

What do the income tax people write on their Christmas cards? Many Happy Returns! Haaaaaaaa!

One more bit of silliness to end the year on: Find you and your teammates Christmas elf name by cruising over to The Christmas Elf Name Generator.  My elf name, which I'll be using to answer the phone with all day, is Licorice Emberleaves.

And if elf names don't jingle your little elf shoes, you can always try the Reindeer Name Generator.
