Punny Business

There are dozens of stories of how businesses skyrocketed to success after changing their name to something fun and catchy ("Rent-a-Husband" being just one of many notable examples). Having a fun name is a simple but effective way for a business to stand out from the herd. Of course, a catchy name won't make up for bad service or a bad product, but when combined with a great business model, a humorous name can brand your business as a personable, down-to-earth company that doesn't take itself too seriously, such as these real life examples: Curl Up n' Dye Hair Salon, Tree Wise Men (landscapers), Pane in the Glass (window shop), Pulp Friction (paper recyclers), Nin Com Soup and Bone Apetite (dog food store).
Most of you probably aren't in a position to rename your company, but the next time you need to name a project, a meeting room, a product, a new service or any customer-related initiative, why not stand out from the herd with something fun and truly memorable?

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
The first full week of March is official "Celebrate Your Name Week." CYNW (as the kids call it) has been around since 1997 with its aim being to raise appreciation of names in general. There are seven different theme days: Name Tag Day, Namesake Day, Name Fun Facts Day, Unique Names Day,
Learn What Your Name Means Day, Middle Name Pride Day, and Genealogy Day. So my fun at work tip for this week is to celebrate the names of the people you work with. Encourage everyone to wear a name tag on March 7 for Name Tag Day; open a meeting where everyone takes a moment to share what their name means OR share what their middle name is OR ask people if they could be named any other name what name would they have chosen for themselves.
And since learning people's names is a simple but key way to build relationships, hold a contest to see who on your team can correctly identify the largest number of employees or customers.
