In my latest book (which isn't really lemon-scented, I made that part up) I write about a former boss who had a sneaky way of figuring out what people might appreciate as thank you gifts at work.
He would
open meetings by asking people what their favorite ______ was. For example, favorite snack item or coffee shop. It not only served as a get-to-know-each-other-better team icebreaker, he also used it to secretly collect intel about each of us so when it came to surprising us with appreciation or thank you gifts, he knew exactly what we all loved!
