Happy Walk at Lunch Day! Or what I like to call "wunch," so happy wunching!
I want to (so I will) share ten insightful culture lessons from the book, "No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention." So here I go sharing them:
1. It is considered disloyal not to speak up at Netflix, after all, you had an idea that could have helped the business, and you chose not to?
2. Feedback drives success: They train employees rigorously on how to give and accept feedback.
3. Netflix starts the process of encouraging open candor by getting employees to give feedback to their bosses, which is shared publicly.
4. They have a "no brilliant jerks" policy. Being honest with your feedback doesn't give you a license to be a rude jerk.
5. They believe freedom is not the opposite of accountability, rather, "it is the path toward it."
6. Their philosophy is to make employees feel as though they are part of Netflix, rather than working for Netflix.
7. They tell employees to seek to do what is best for the company, rather than merely trying to please their boss.
8. When something fails that you are working on they follow three guidelines: Ask what you learned, don’t make a big deal out of it, and sunshine the failure (Netflix calls sharing information "sunshining".)
9. Speaking publicly about your failure is encouraged because you were doing exactly what Netflix expects of you - trying out innovative ideas and being honest when they don't work out.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |

April 24 is Administrative Professionals Day, so please take the time to send some love and appreciation to all the administrative professionals. Remember, they know where all the bodies are buried. Send them a card, bring them chocolate, do an interpretive dance, hire a singing telegram (or sing it yourself), take them out to lunch, do something randomly nice and spontaneous for them, or
bring them a stuffed otter or some cheese. Just do something to appreciate these often-unsung workplaces heroes.
