Three Key Traits of Inspiring Workplace Cultures

Having worked in a soul-sucking, fun-sucking workplace, I can attest to the fact that it's, well, not a lot of fun. Of course, work isn't supposed to be fun every moment of every day, but when work not only stops being fun but becomes a place where incivility and inhumanity reigns, the consequences and the costs are enormous.

Your workplace culture is your #1 driver of success. Culture is your #1 competitive advantage, so you can never become complacent about your workplace culture. And yet, I've seen it time and time again, where workplaces that were once known as great places to work lose their mojo.

Do not let this happen to your workplace! You need to continuously champion the importance of culture. Nurture as many culture champions as you can - employees at all levels who understand why culture matters and who can keep the spirit of your workplace culture alive.

On this note, a recent study of more than 5,000 companies found that the top-3 traits that contributed to a great workplace culture were, in order of importance: Open and honest communication; meaningful work; and a sense of community at work.

So, what are you, your team, and your organization doing when it comes to those three elements of a thriving culture? How would you rate yourselves in each category? What can you do to re-energize (re-mojo-ize?) your workplace while sending the message that your culture matters now more than ever?

As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
