    Surprising Wins for the Win

A study referenced in Daniel Gilbert's book, Stumbling on Happiness, demonstrates how the element of surprise creates an added element of fun anticipation to your workplace recognition programs. And hey, more recognition at work + more fun at work = a more inspiring workplace.

The University of Virginia study found that when participants didn't know which prize (amongst a selection of similarly valued prizes) they were going to win until after they were done something experienced a far greater boost in happiness levels compared even to people who got to choose their TWO most favorite prizes from a list of options.

So, when you are planning fun recognition programs or contests for your employees or customers, why not up the fun factor by letting people know they have the chance of winning an array of prizes that will be determined by a draw or a spin of a wheel after the event.

Now is the ideal time to plan some fun summer rituals or traditions you could incorporate into your workplace throughout the summer (because if you did them in the winter they wouldn't really be summer rituals, would they?). For some inspiration, pop on over to Ten Fun Summer Ideas for Your Workplace.

And if YOU do something that's summery fun in your workplace, please pop me a quick note, I'd love to hear your ideas!
