Oops, I Did It Again! Dancing Away Your Oops

It's time for another pine-scented, gluten-free edition of random ideas and musings...

  • If you want to normalize the idea that it's okay for anyone to say they were wrong about something, then remind everyone that being wrong about something doesn't mean you did something wrong. It means you were open-minded enough to learn something new!
  • Hold an empty seat at your meetings, or better still, use a physical dummy to sit in a chair to represent your ideal customers' perspective in all your meetings
  • According to a study of top performers, the top-two habits of super-focused people are...drum roll please...they work in focused blocks with no distractions and they regularly step away from all their screens.
  • Research shows that one of the most powerful ways to be better liked at work is to ask people more follow-up questions (in a non-annoying manner, I imagine)
  • A study reported in Inc.Magazine revealed that if you speak using lots of gesture, you are 20% more memorable. (And if you knock over a valuable heirloom while gesturing you become 98% more memorable.)
  • And speaking of owning our bloopers: The former CEO and founder of Spanx, Sara Blakely, regularly highlighted her mistakes during their company-wide "Oops Meetings," sharing her oops through stories and with plenty of humor, always culminating with her dancing to a song that was evocative of the mistake she's made while inviting employees to dance along and cheer her on for owning her mistake.
