Is Your Workplace Going to the Dogs? |
|
|
|
It's time for another spring-infused edition of random ideas and musings:
- Today is Administrative Professionals Day, so don't forget to thank an administrative professional near you!
- Another reason to "jerk-proof" your team: Research shows that teams that value civility are 59% more likely to share information with one another.
- Whenever possible, try to synchronize your coffee and lunch breaks at work so that people can better connect and share more information with one another. A Bank of America call center tripled retention rates and improved performance by 23% when they shifted to synchronized breaks.
- If you want to stay motivated doing a task you dread, one psychologist suggests the most powerful thing you can do is shift your inner talk from "I HAVE to ____" to "I GET to ____."
- "Dog rental" companies that bring dogs into various corporate workplaces for the day (such as Doggos Events and Corporate Canine Therapy) saw a huge growth in their business over the last year, as companies continue to look for fun ways to entice employees back to work and boost morale.
- One of my clients has a "Failure Board" on a hallway wall, where people publicly post their bloopers and screw ups as well as what they learned from those screw ups as a way of embracing everyone's very human foibles.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |

One of my clients does this and they say it's a great way to encourage conversations at work: Everyone puts up a sign on their cubicle wall or office door saying, "Ask me about____." It can be any (well, almost any) work-related or personal topic they are passionate about.
Another client does this every Friday, where everyone wears a name tag using the, "Ask me about ____" formula.
And yes, you can even do this if you work alone - I met a salesperson a while ago who had a list of three things you could ask him about on the back of his business card, including: "Ask me my favorite Dad joke!"
