Five Ways to Intentionally Build a Better Workplace |
|
|
|
Welcome to 2023 - I hope you were down enough over the holidays...as in, you know, enjoying your down time enough, not the other kind of down!
The start of a new year is the perfect time to take stock of your work life and workplace. It's a great time to recommit to creating a more inspiring, compassionate, innovative, and fun workplace. And of course, nothing will change unless you commit to making the changes you need to make. And for change to happen you need to be intentional about stepping up as a leader and intentional about how you contribute to your
workplace culture. Here are five ideas that can help you.
1. Set 2 or 3 daily intentions. What are two or three daily habits you want to form? They don't have to be BIG! Setting small intentions for things that will help you make a difference to your own life and to the lives of people around you is incredibly powerful. The key is to review the list at the start and end of each day, and for bonus points, track your success rate so you improve your odds of sticking to them.
2. Take five minutes each Monday morning. Yup, just five minutes. Five minutes to mentally scan the week ahead and focus on how you want to show up at work for the entire week.
3. Take five minutes at the end of your week. Yup, just another five minutes. Five minutes to review the week and to take stock of how well you acted upon those daily intentions, what highlights are worth savoring and celebrating, and what lessons you learned.
4. Create monthly workplace culture themes for yourself and/or your team. For inspiration, hop over to Monthly Culture Building Themes.
5. Use the Wheel of Change. What's one thing you need to commit to consistently doing, one thing you want to stop doing, and one thing you want to start doing? You can do this first with your own work habits and then encourage your team to make commitments that apply to your entire team.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
The start of a new year is the perfect opportunity to put out "Jars of Awesomeness" throughout your office, where people can leave small notes of recognition or appreciation anytime someone does something awesome or something awesome happens. It's a simple way to remind everyone to focus on and appreciate the positives. At the end of every month or every quarter you can share the notes
of awesomeness at meetings, on your intranet site, or through an email to celebrate how many fabulously awesome things happened.
