Four Workplace Practices That Will Make You Happier |
|
|
|
I'm excited, ecstatic, overjoyed, thrilled, elated, happy, pumped, and joyful to remind you that today is official Thesaurus Day!
And speaking of feeling happy...an article in Inc. Magazine summarized four rare habits of exceptionally happy employees. Here's the lowdown.
1. Happier employees have a generous mindset. Studies show that not only doing generous acts at work makes us happier, brain scans reveal that just thinking about performing generous acts makes us happier! And the good news is that the research shows that even small generous gestures pay off when it comes to your happiness.
2. Happier employees practice acts of kindness. Research reported in the psychology journal Emotion found that givers and receives enjoy positive mental boosts from acts of kindness, and then when people at work are on the receiving end of an act of kindness, they are three times more likely to pay it forward with positive behaviors with others.
3. Happier employees practice forgiveness. A study reported in the American Journal for Health Promotion found that forgiveness was linked to higher productivity, improved workplace collaboration, less stress, and fosters greater happiness.
4. Happier employees seek out and nurture healthy relationships. Numerous studies show that supportive relationships with colleagues is a key driver of workplace success and happiness.
One study found that when positive workplace relationships are present, 77% of employees report feeling happy at work, compared to only 35% who report feeling happy in workplaces where positive relationships are absent.
