    Four Critical Needs of Employees

Gallup research, presented in the book, Strengths Based Leadership, uncovered four key needs of employees at work: trust, compassion, stability, and hope.

Trust: Their research showed this was a top level need, with employees repeatedly saying they wanted a leader who's authentic, who has their back and who is going to tell them the truth even when the truth isn't always fun to hear.

Compassion: Do you see me as a real human being, and not just a means to an end, a cog in the organization?

Stability: Especially when there is a lot of chaos and change going on, employees need to have a sense of stability, a sense of calm, a sense of clarity, and a sense of control.

Hope: While hope can seem rather nebulous, the research is clear - people need hope. Not blind hope that things will just somehow magically turn out, but they need to see a vision, they need goals and a road map so that they can see their way through a chaotic time. Hope and optimism is about conveying the idea that you have the support in place to achieve the goals you need to achieve and get through anything, no matter how daunting.

How well does your workplace culture reflect these four needs? How well do you, as a leader on your team (regardless of what position you hold), embody and reflect these four needs?

It's official Howl at the Moon Night, but why wait until the evening when you can gather your team today for a group howl at your coffee break, lunch, or the end of the day? Yes, it's silly...and that's entirely the point!
