Theme Day To Help You Get Stuff Done

If you're often feeling scattered at work, why not create some theme days to help you focus on different goals? You can try these just for yourself or suggest them for your entire team so it becomes a group effort. Here are a few examples:
  • Get Stuff Done Day: A day where no meetings are booked, email (and Facebook) is kept to a minimum, and you commit to getting several priority items knocked off your list, especially things you've been putting off for a long time.
  • Laser Focus Day: Similar to Get Stuff Done Day, but with a focus on blocking off the entire day to work on just one project.
  • Get Smart Day: No, I'm not referring to my favorite childhood sitcom, but a day where you focus on learning a new skill, even if it's something small you've been putting off.
  • Connecting Day: A day where you commit to connecting with teammates that you haven't reached out to in a long time.
  • Taco Day: Because, well...tacos!
  • Deep Thinking Day: If thought leaders can dedicate an entire week to just thinking about the pressing challenges of the day, surely you could set aside a chunk of time on one day to focus on some deep thinking.
  • Appreciation Day: A day dedicated to sending everyone, especially the unsung heroes, an extra serving of love and recognition.
There's no end to what you could come up with. And to help you set your intention, tell everyone about your theme day. Make it official so everyone knows when to stay out of your hair and cheer you on for Laser Focus Day, or, you know, meet you for tacos!

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

A poll by Trusaic asked employees what unusual job perk they would appreciate the most. Some of the top responses included: hangover leave; a subscription to a sleep app; breakup leave (to get over a bad relationship break up); houseplant bereavement leave; compassionate leave for a heartbroken sports fan; and a subscription service to a premium dating app.

Now some of these may sound rather silly, but why not poll your employees or teammates to see what quirky/offbeat perks they would most want? Sharing the results could be rather hilarious, and you never know, you may land on a few unexpected items that make sense and are easily implementable! You could also award a prize for the most creative entry.

And why not promote one or two of your quirkier perks (or make up some silly ones) on your website to help you stand out with potential recruits?

As seen on a business sign window:

"This business accepts VISA, Mastercard, American Express, waffles, several bowls of soup, pigeon hats, secret Illuminati handshakes, compliments about the cashier's beard, and the head of that cave troll that keeps eating our children."
