Three Questions To Help You Find More Love at Work |
|
|
|
Research by Marcus Buckingham reveals that if you love what you do just 20% of the time, you are far less likely to burn out or have negative outcomes than people who love their jobs
less. While I think we should aim substantially higher than for just 20%, it's encouraging to think that making small adjustments at work can be a real game changer when it comes to workplace culture, employee retention, and happiness at work.
Buckingham suggests we ask ourselves the following three questions to start a conversation, first with yourself (and trust me, conversations with yourself are some of the most fascinating and important conversations you'll ever have) and then with your boss about what would make you love your job a smidge more:
1. What is it about what you do that you love the most?
2. When does time fly by for you so much that you lose all track of time?
3. When do you find yourself looking forward to something the most?
Then get creative. Partner with your boss to figure out how you might remove some of the jobstacles (things that are getting in the way of you being happier at work) and increase the amount of time you spend doing work that makes you happier and more fulfilled.

Mike's Fun at Work Tip |
|
If you want to have more fun at work here's a general principle to keep in mind. Real fun is a lot like romance: You need to set the mood for it and if you try too hard it can backfire! Nobody wants to be forced into having fun. But when you invite people to have fun and create the
right environment where people feel free to bring their messy, imperfect selves to work in an environment that doesn't feel overly stuffy, laughter and levity will happen organically - without having to add any fertilizer or water!

In honor of today being official Watermelon Day:
“Life is like eating a watermelon, you know you’re going to get some seeds - just spit them out and take another bite!”

The Jerk-Free Workplace
Did you know that you can download my book, The Jerk-Free Workplace; How You Can Take the Lead to Create a Happier, More Inspiring Workplace on your Kindle or e-reader of choice for only $9.99! That's less than the cost of a trip to Hawaii or one ukulele lesson! Plus, it could, just maybe, change your life considerably for the better. Or even your entire
workplace. Could a single ukulele lesson do that? I highly doubt it.
