Tasteful Ways to Celebrate Your Flops

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, known for their fun branding and fun workplace culture, isn't afraid to talk about their flops. In fact, they celebrate their flops, as we all should!

Their website proudly highlights their "10 Flavor Flops That We Still Like to Giggle About," including Fred and Ginger, Aloha Macadamia, and Oh Pear.

And why not trumpet your failures? It's a fun way to connect and build trust with your customers, it demonstrates that you are constantly trying new things, and it shows you can laugh at yourself.

But wait, there's more!

At their Vermont headquarters, you can tour their Flavor Graveyard where their "dearly de-pinted" flavors go to die.
The graveyard features tombstones adorned with witty, poetic epitaphs for such bygone flavors as Fossil Fuel, Turtle Soup, Bovinity Divinity, and Dastardly Mash. Customers can also vote on which deceased flavor they would most love to see resurrected.

It's cheeky marketing that helps keep a culture of authenticity, experimentation, and customer engagement alive.

    Mike's Fun at Work Tip

Thank you, Heather Dougan from Yukon University, who shared this fun idea with me last week when I was keynoting in fabulous Whitehorse. Heather created a jar of "cookie-less fortunes" - fortune cookie fortunes without the cookies.

The fortunes are funny or inspiring thoughts, such as, "Zoom meetings are SO 2020," "Happiness is an Inside Job," and "Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast!"  The fortunes are a great conversation starter and a simple way to add a bit of levity to the day. You could also try a team fortune jar as well, where people can both contribute fortunes and withdraw fortunes from the fortune jar.
